Mantle
Who are these tiny people who call me 'mother'?
Have I earned this title?
Do I love as well as my mother, or my mother's mother, or the mother before her?
Am I perfecting the generations?
These questions are asked everyday, but go unanswered.
p.s. all 3 of these photos were taken by my sister in-law, kate benson.

Martha, I think you're doing a great job with your adorable children. However, the proper question you should be asking is: Am I loving like my brother Andy loves?
If you can answer in the affirmative, then you are on your way to the top.
This is why we asked you and Sarah to take our children in the event of something happening to us, b/c nobody loves like Andy does (and I mean the hard love:)).
Its passed down from generation to generation. If you can love like your father loves, then you are truly "Daddy's Girl"
Beautiful, Martha. Great questions to ask.
Aren't these the questions that will plague all women forever. I know I spend way too much time thinking the same things. And I wish I had a brother Andy to leave me kids to - I don't trust my siblings enough.
you deserve the title of Mother. Any woman who has wrestled her children to sleep and actually slept in their crib the way you have deserves to be called Mom. But it does make you wonder "Did my mom ever want to beat me the way I want to (but obviously never will) beat my children?"
you are an amazing mother to all of your chidren and what precious pictures....i love them!
i think you become a good mother...it doesn't automatically happen. it happens little by little, and then someday when your children are grown and they have kids..then you are a good mother. and to answer your question, if you really have slept in their crib then i say YES, you deserve to be a mother!
I hope you have all three of those darling baby photos on your mantle. Hee hee.
Really, this is the question of the ages. Can't we just love as perfectly as we can?
Oh! Your sil is Kate Benson? I blog-stalk her on occasion! Her photos are AMAZING!!
And yes, don't we all ask those unanswerables? I guess that's the nature of our lives as moms, huh? But the fact that you focus on it so much puts you in the higher tier of mothers, I think.
ahhh.. the questions that we ask ourselves every day. Such a awesome/scary responsibility we have.
