My Old Man, and His Birthday
Last Sunday marked a mile stone for Brad.
He pleaded with 40 not to darken his doorstep, but 40 came anyway.
He asked if 40 could just pass quietly, without recognition, as if the ticking of time would muffle if it was given no attention.
But celebrate time we did, even with it's wrinkles and gray hairs. For what are wrinkles and gray hairs? Are they not the sum of summers and winters,
scraped knees, smiles, laughter, blue skies, rain, discovery, sugar,
beginnings, endings, songs, blood, fullness, emptiness, romance, clarity,
friendship, opportunity, duty, knowledge, humility, pain, generosity,
magic,
and joy?
So let us celebrate you and your 40 years Brad.

Your way with words is beautiful, Martha. And those children! What lovelies!
you are right.
getting older IS a blessing.
i hope i never turn into those people that will never divulge their age.
i am 31, and proud.
you know another sign of impending old age? allowing yourself to be photographed while wearing an apron.
oh wait, that was you.
:O)
the picture of the kids in the bath with their daddy is the sweetest!
Makes me really miss everyone...
makes me proud to have Brad for a bro-in-law, too!
It' hard to believe it's been 40 years since that bundle of joy came into my life. Funny... I remember very few of the bad times or frustrating time. Remember so many of the good time. See gals, who are in the mix... there is light at the end of the tunnel.
Great celebration... happy to have been a part of it.
Love you
Nana
